Hyundai Readies Another Recall Over Engine Fires

Hyundai Motor Co. is preparing to recall 20,000 of its Veloster sport coupes in the U.S. and Canada to fix an engine ignition control software glitch that could cause a fire, the Associated Press reports.
The problem can cause the engine to misfire, damaging it and producing stalling and/or a fire. The recall will target only 2013 model Velosters fitted with 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engines. The company says the software issue does not apply to other engines or models.
The recall is expected to begin in mid-May. It comes on top of multiple campaigns to fix a variety of engine flaws that can cause fires in more than 6 million Hyundai and Kia brand vehicles in the U.S. market.
The slowly expanding Hyundai-Kia recalls have prompted multiple investigations by regulatory and legal authorities about the companies’ responsiveness to the defects.
