Hyundai Motor Co. is partnering with Silicon Valley tech giant Cisco Systems Inc. to develop next-generation connected-car technologies.
The companies will cooperate on basic research to analyze data flow and create a testing environment for vehicle simulation. Hyundai says it will increase its investment in big-data analytics and connected car security technologies, with a focus on in-vehicle communication networks.
In addition to improving real-time data transmission speeds, Hyundai aims to optimize the effectiveness of communications between individual vehicle systems and subsystems.
The partnership with Cisco is Hyundai’s first agreement since it announced its new technology roadmap for connected cars earlier this month. Under the plan, the carmaker says it will collaborate with global IT and networking companies to develop “hyper-connected and intelligent” car systems.
Hyundai's effort ranges from smartphone and vehicle-to-home connectivity to remote maintenance service, autonomous driving technologies and vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications.
