An interior photo of Toyota Motor Corp.’s redesigned LS flagship sedan appears to confirm plans for a hybrid version of the 2018 model. The current LS also offers a hybrid.
The carmaker unveiled the conventionally powered fifth-generation LS last week at the Detroit auto show. At the time the carmaker didn’t mention a hybrid variant. But one of the official photos shows an “EV Mode” button on the center console, Motor Authority notes.
The new LS is due later this year and will share a platform with the LC coupe, which Lexus previously announced would include a hybrid drivetrain. The base LS will be powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 mated with a new 10-speed automatic transmission, generating 415 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque.
Previous reports suggested that Lexus also is considering fuel cell-powered version of the LS. If approved, that model likely wouldn’t be introduced until early next decade.
