Honda Motor Co. will cut output of Fit minicars 20% at its factory in Suzuka, Japan, The Nikkei reports.

The Tokyo-based newspaper says the plant will drop from two shifts to one in April-October this year. The Suzuka facility also makes the CR-Z small three-door hatch hybrid.

The adjustment will lower Honda's domestic production plan for fiscal 2015 below 900,000 units from an initial target of 1 million vehicles in Japan. The Nikkei says the reduction reflects Japan's sluggish economy and quality problems with the Fit that delayed plans to introduce an updated model at the end of last year.
