One of Honda Motor Co.’s most popular models in China, the CR-V crossover, will return to the marketplace later this month after the company launches a recall to fix engine problems in 130,000 units already on the road.
The callback targets cars made by the company’s venture with Dongfeng Motor Corp. between February 2017 and February 2018. Owners began late last year to complain that a combination of cold weather and a series of short trips could allow gasoline fumes to enter the passenger compartment.
Delays in approving a remedy have left Honda without permission to sell the model since early March. At the time, regulators noted similar issues with certain models sold in China by other carmakers.
The recall snafu put a dent in Honda’s fast-growing sales in China. The company’s overall sales in the county surged 33% in 2015, and 24% in 2016. Deliveries in China last year climbed another 16%, enabling Honda to outsell Toyota Motor Corp.
