Honda Motor Co. will recall 573,100 of its 2003-2007 Accord cars in the U.S. to replace a power steering hose that could leak and cause a fire. All affected models are equipped with V-6 engines.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says affected cars have power steering hoses that could crack and allow power steering fluid to leak. Smoke and/or fire could occur if the fluid drips onto the car's hot catalytic converter.
Honda says it plans to install hoses made of a more heat-resistant rubber but won't have enough inventory to begin the campaign until early next year.
The campaign expands a recall in May involving 52,600 of the company's 2007-2008 Acura TL sedans. Honda says it is aware of one fire caused by the defect.
