Honda Motor Co. plans to recall 268,700 CR-V small crossovers in the U.S. and 220,000 of the vehicles in Europe to replace a power window switch that could short out and cause a fire.
Both campaigns involve two- and four-wheel-drive models from the 2002-2006 model years.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the master power window switch in the driver's door could fail if it is exposed to water or other fluids that enter the driver's open window. The switch can overheat, melt, damage its wiring harness and smoke or cause a fire.
Honda says U.S. dealers will replace the switch, which was supplied by Japan-based Omron Corp., beginning next month.
