Honda Motor Co. is recalling 1.4 million Acura and Honda brand vehicles in the U.S. to replace Takata airbag inflators that could explode when triggered by a crash.
The campaign is the fourth and final installment in a staged recall of 12.9 million vehicles to replace their driver and/or front passenger front airbag inflators. The new recall targets passenger-side front airbag inflators, including about 400,000 that were replaced previously.
Honda originally planned to begin the new recall in December. But it says it is ahead of schedule on a previous inflator recall and has ample replacement units to begin the next wave of repairs. The company will begin mailing recall notices in late November.
The new recall targets these models:
- Acura RL (2010-2012)
- Acura TSX and wagon (2011-2014)
