Honda Motor Co. is preparing to replace damaged wiring in the steering wheels of 2019 model CR-V small SUV/crossovers that could trigger an airbag misfire.

The campaign, expected to start in July, will involve 118,600 vehicles sold in the U.S.
Honda says wiring for control buttons mounted on the steering wheel could be cut by metal burrs within the wheel, causing them to short circuit. If so, some buttons may malfunction, the horn could sound unexpectedly and the driver’s frontal airbag might deploy unexpectedly.
Honda reports six such airbag misfires, which resulted in three injuries but no crashes.
