Honda Motor Co. says it is dropping its hybrid five-door hatch and CR-Z sport coupe from the European market because consumers prefer diesels.
The company tells Automotive News Europe it will continue to offer a hybrid powertrain option for its Jazz minicar at least until the next-generation car debuts in 2015.
Honda says European demand for the Insight plunged 62% to fewer than 1,300 units last year, and CR-Z sales fell 66% to 700 cars. Jazz hybrid sales in the region dropped 40% to 4,500 units.
The company reports "strong demand" for clean diesels. ANE notes that Honda's diesel-powered Civic small car emits 94 grams per kilometer compared with 96 g/km for the Insight hybrid.
