Honda Motor Co. has opened a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station at its Marysville, Ohio, campus.
Built and operated by Trillium CNG, the refueling station primarily will serve CNG-fueled commercial trucks delivering parts to Honda's operations in Marysville. The facility, the first public CNG station located on a Honda site anywhere in North America, also can be used to refuel CNG passenger cars.
The station's three CNG dispensers feature Trillium's new proprietary fast-fill "hydraulic-intensifier" compressor. Trillium says the compressors can deliver more fuel than conventional CNG systems, allowing for faster refueling times.
There are more than 15.2 million cars worldwide that run on CNG. But only about 150,000 are in the U.S., and most are commercial trucks. Honda had produced the only CNG model in the U.S a natural-gas-fueled version of its Civic small car but dropped the option this year due to low demand.
