Honda Motor Co. has posted a message on its U.S. customer Web site offering to replace Takata Corp. airbags in certain Honda and Acura vehicles that aren't included in recent recalls.
Honda has launched multiple campaigns to call back about 5 million vehicles in high-humidity regions of the U.S. and its territories. The recalls are to replace Takata-supplied airbag inflators that could explode and spray metal fragments into the passenger compartment. The inflators have been linked to four fatalities in the U.S. and a fifth in Malaysia.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has said the affected inflators appear to be sensitive to moisture. The agency adds that it has no evidence of misfires involving Takata inflators in vehicles in less humid environments.
