Honda Motor Co. is adding 104,900 cars and crossovers to its nationwide recall of cars equipped with Takata Corp. driver-side airbag inflators that could explode when activated.
The new group of vehicles includes 2001 model Accord midsize sedans, 2004 Civic small sedans and 2008 model Pilot crossover vehicles.
The campaign expands on a recall that began last June in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Honda extended that campaign to California in July and expanded it in December to targeted vehicles anywhere in the U.S.
The new batch of vehicles brings the total number of Honda and Acura brand cars and crossover recalled in the U.S. to fix defective airbag inflators to 5.5 million.
