Honda Motor Co. investigators say they have verified claims that a driver in Florida was injured by an exploding Takata Corp. airbag inflator on March 20.

The incident, first reported by Reuters last week, involved a 2003 Honda Civic small car. The model was part of a recall launched by Honda last June to replace the inflator.

The injured driver's lawyer said on Friday the victim received a recall notice a few days after the incident. Honda's records show the company also sent recall notices to the driver on Sept. 27 and Jan. 27, neither of which was returned as undeliverable.

Takata airbag inflators have been implicated in six fatalities, all involving Honda vehicles, and hundreds of injuries. Ten carmakers have recalled about 25 million vehicles to replace faulty Takata inflators.
