Honda Motor Co. says it intends to boost its sales in China to more than 1.2 million vehicles by 2015 from 617,800 vehicles last year.
Seiji Kuraishi, chief operating officer for the company's Chinese operations, tells reporters in Beijing that the company has been "too cautious" in pursuing growth in China. He says Honda aims to slash purchasing costs, thus allowing it to cut vehicle prices and boost volume.
The company also expects to hike sales by introducing at least 10 new or redesigned models there between 2013 and 2015, including three hybrids: the CR-Z sport coupe, Insight sedan and Fit Hybrid. Honda adds that its Guangqi Honda venture with Guangzhou Automotive Group will begin making electric vehicles by year-end.
The company aims to expand its Acura luxury car lineup in China by adding three or four new models by 2013.
