Ferrari SpA is moving forward with plans for a new V-6-powered sports car that could bow in 2019, company officials confirm at the Frankfurt auto show. Known internally as the Dino, the entry-level car is said to be in pre-production but hasn't received final approval yet.
The car's twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 will kick out an impressive 200 hp/liter for a total of 580 ponies, an unnamed engineer tells Motor Trend. He says the company is strengthening various engine components to handle the high power load.
The V-6 mill is derived from Ferrari's 660-hp, 3.9-liter V-8 that powers the company's 488 GTB and Spider convertible. In addition to losing two cylinders, the V-6 was modified to improve NVH characteristics, MT says.
