Design entrepreneur Henrik Fisker will unveil his new Force 1 supercar in January at the Detroit auto show. He plans to begin building the limited-production model next spring at an unspecified facility in Michigan.
Fisker, a former design executive at Aston Martin, BMW and Ford, co-founded the ill-fated hybrid car startup Fisker Automotive Inc. and launched the Karma hybrid car. China’s Wanxiang Group bought Fisker Automotive out of bankruptcy in early 2014. In September, it renamed the company Karma Automotive after the original Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid car.
Fisker says he has partnered on his new car with an unnamed American race car driver and racing team on the new project.
An overhead sketch of the Force 1 shows a sleek, two-seat coupe with a long hood and short rear deck. The rear-wheel-drive vehicle will have a carbon fiber body, active suspension and front mid-engine layout.
Fisker describes the engine as being one of the most powerful naturally aspirated units in the industry. The powerplant will be mated with either a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional automatic gearbox controlled by shift paddles. No other details were provided.
Pricing of the vehicle will start at just under $300,000, according to Fisker. Production will be limited to 50 units.
