Mazda Motor Corp. says heavy rains and flooding in western Japan in July disrupted production for two months and cost the company 44,000 units of planned output.
About 75% of the lost production consisted of popular crossover models, and half of the overall total were vehicles intended for foreign markets. The storms also eliminated the production of knockdown parts for 23,000 units of assembly in China, Mexico and Thailand. Mazda says normal production in Japan resumed on Sept. 10.
The disruption will reduce operating income for the fiscal second quarter by about 28 billion yen ($249 million), according to the company.
