UPDATE: Harley-Davidson Sales, Earnings Drop

Retail sales by iconic motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson Inc. fell 10% to 42,100 units in the fourth quarter of 2017 and 7% to 242,800 units for the full year.
Motorcycle revenue in October-December jumped 17% to $802 million. But sales results fell 7% to $3.8 billion for the year. Operating income tripled to $38 million in the fourth quarter but shrank 20% to $616 million for the year.
The Milwaukee-based company says it added 32,000 riders in the U.S. last year and hopes to capture more overseas customers with 57 new international dealerships.
Even so, the company predicts its unit sales this year will decline to 231,000-236,000 units. In response, Harley-Davidson says it will shut down its assembly plant in Kansas City, Mo., this summer. The move will eliminate 800 jobs and consolidate the Kansas City operations with its factory in York, Pa.
