Sweden’s Autoliv Inc. has agreed to help Chinese light-truck specialist Great Wall Motor Co. launch a research center in China to prepare vehicles to meet safety standards in North America.
The facility in Baoding, China, will help guide the Chinese carmaker’s safety-related strategies for eventually entering the U.S. car market.
The new center will coordinate efforts with a $4 million tech center Great Wall opened outside Detroit in 2018. The mission of the 16,000 sq-ft facility in Farmington Hills, Mich., is to assist the Chinese carmaker in satisfying U.S. emission, fuel economy and safety regulations.
