Kia Motors Corp. overseas marketing chief tells Auto Express the GT concept vehicle it unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show in 2011 will go into production in about three years.
The South Korean carmaker says it will borrow design cues from the GT concept but may build the four-door grand tourer on a front-drive platform as opposed to the concept's rear-drive layout.
The concept GT was penned under the guidance of Kia global design director Peter Schreyer, but it remains unclear how closely the production car will mirror the concept's styling.
Sources tell Auto Express that Kia may build the car on the architecture underpinning the Genesis coupe produced by parent Hyundai Motor Co. The British enthusiast magazine notes that another possibility is an all-wheel-drive car derived from the front-drive package.
