Alphabet Inc.’s Google unit is making its Waze navigation system a part of company’s Android Auto interface that allows users to access smartphone content from their vehicles’ infotainment system.
Subscribers now can view the Waze app, which includes real-time traffic and road conditions, from a vehicle’s display screen. Google Maps remains the default setting through Android Auto, with Waze added as an “alternative navigation” option under the Maps setting.
Waze users can share and verify information with other subscribers about accidents, traffic congestion and the presence of police and other emergency vehicles. A Waze ride-sharing app was launched this year to coordinate member carpooling.
Google recently completed beta tests of Waze on Android Auto with 5,000 users. The Android Auto version went live earlier today. The feature works mostly the same way as standard Waze smartphone app, which enables users to provide updates via voice commands or a display touchscreen, but without distracting features such as “map chat.”
Waze (formerly Freemap) was founded in Israel in 2013. Google acquired the company in 2013.

Chevy Develops eCOPO Camaro: The Fast and the Electric
The notion that electric vehicles were the sort of thing that well-meaning professors who wear tweed jackets with elbow patches drove in order to help save the environment was pretty much annihilated when Tesla added the Ludicrous+ mode to the Model S which propelled the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds.
