General Motors Co. reports its sales in China shrank to 245,700 in February from 270,900 in the same month last year.
Like other carmakers, GM attributes the monthly decline to this year’s relatively early Chinese New Year holiday. GM’s combined January-February sales total rose 11%.
Demand for Buick brand vehicles jumped 16% to 70,800 units last month. Cadillac sales dropped 16% to 4,800 units. GM’s deliveries of SUV/crossover vehicles more than doubled.
February deliveries of Baojun-brand cars rose 52% to a record 39,300 units, thanks to strong demand for the 730 seven-passenger minivan and 560 crossover. Sales of Wuling brand commercial vehicles fell 18% to 103,400 units.
