General Motors Co. plans to power most operations at its Toluca, Mexico, factory with about 25 megawatts of electricity generated by windmills.
The power will come from a wind farm being built in Palo Alto, Mexico, by Italy's Enel Green Power SpA. GM will use another 9 megawatts from the farm's windmills to help power its automotive operations in Ramos Arizpe, San Luis Potosio and Silao.
The company figures the deal will reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the three Mexican facilities by nearly 40,000 tons per year. GM did not say when the wind farm will begin generating electricity.
