General Motors Co. says it will spend $350 million to prepare its factory in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, to build the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze small sedan.

The investment is part of a four-year, $3.6 billion expansion in the country. Ramos Arizpe makes the current Cruze along with the Cadillac SRX crossover and Chevrolet Sonic minicar and Captiva Sport SUV.

GM's Cruze plant in Lordstown, Ohio, also will produce the redesigned model. The carmaker currently makes the Cruze in nine other plants around the world. GM has not yet indicated which ones will continue to make the car when the new model debuts late next year.
