General Motors Co. plans to adjust output at plants in Michigan and Ontario for a few days to help lower dealer inventories, sources tell Automotive News.

GM will add five days of downtime at its Orion assembly plant northwest of Detroit beginning March 9. The plant, which makes Chevrolet Sonic subcompact and Buick Verano small cars, was idle last week and is already scheduled to be down the week of April 6.

AN says GM has a 216-day supply of Sonics, more than three times the normal volume.

GM also will idle one of the production lines at its factory in Oshawa, Ont., April 13-17, according to the report. The cutback will affect output of Buick Regal sedans, Cadillac XTS sedans, Chevrolet Camaro sport coupes and Chevy Impala large sedans.
