General Motors Co. is preparing to recall 118,800 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks in the U.S. that were manufactured without a secondary hood latch.
The secondary latch prevents the hood from blowing open if the main latch is not engaged. GM says an investigation showed that its supplier had no system in place to determine whether or not the backup latch had been installed.
The recall, expected to begin in mid-January, involves trucks made between early November 2009 and late August 2012. GM says dealers will replace the hoods of trucks that lack the secondary latch.
