General Motors Co. is preparing to call back 88,100 of its 2018 model GMC Terrain SUVs in the U.S. to fix a flaw that could prevent the airbags from working in a crash.
The issue involves an electronic diagnostic module whose function is to determine when a crash occurs and decide which airbags to deploy.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the module may not power down correctly when the ignition is turned off. If that happens, the airbags won’t work when the vehicle is restarted.
GM has not yet decided when to begin the recall. The free repair will entail reprogramming the module’s software.
