General Motors Co. plans to recall 324,200 of its large pickup trucks in the U.S. with engine-block heater connectors that could catch fire.
The campaign will target certain 2017-2019 model Chevrolet Silverado (pictured) and GMC Sierra trucks. All are powered by Duramax 6.6-liter diesel engines and are equipped with an optional engine-block heater.
GM says the terminals that connect the heater cord to the heater unit could short circuit and perhaps cause a fire. The carmaker is still developing a cure for the problem and has not indicated when the callback will begin.
The GM recall comes a month after Ford Motor Co. began a larger campaign to fix a similar problem with engine-block heaters in its F-Series pickup trucks.
