General Motors Co. is preparing to recall 2006-2007 model crossover vehicles to replace a driver's door circuit board that could corrode, short circuit and cause an electrical fire.
The campaign will include 249,300 vehicles sold or currently registered in 20 northern states and the District of Columbia. Affected models are the Buick Rainier, Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X.
GM also is recalling roughly 9,000 of those models sold in Canada.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says road salt solution can corrode the circuit board, producing a short circuit that could cause the power door locks and window switches to work intermittently or not at all. The short also could cause odor, smoke or a fire in the door.
GM's recall follows an NHTSA investigation launched in February into reports of smoke or fire in Chevy TrailBlazer door modules. The agency has been probing similar problems in as many as 830,000 Toyota Camry sedans and RAV4 crossovers.
