General Motors Co. plans to slash the staff of its international operations headquarters in Singapore to about 50 from 180 by the end of 2017, a source tells Reuters.
Reuters says 90 of the employees are expected to exit GM no later than the end of June. The remaining staff will continue to provide “strategic oversight” for lingering GM operations in Australia, India, New Zealand, South Korea and southeast Asia.
Last week GM said it will take a $500 million charge in the current quarter for restructuring in Africa, India and Singapore. The company will phase out local-market activities in India and South Africa and sell its South African truckmaking joint venture with Isuzu Motors Corp.
