GM Suspends Sales of 60,000 Vehicles for OnStar Fix
General Motors Co. has halted the sales of about 60,000 vehicles across eight model lines to reprogram their OnStar telematics software.
General Motors Co. has halted the sales of about 60,000 vehicles across eight model lines to reprogram their OnStar telematics software. The company expects to complete the repairs later this month.
A software glitch prevents the vehicle from automatically alerting OnStar's call center of a crash such as a collision from behind in which the airbags don't deploy.
GM says all other OnStar features, including notification when the airbags are triggered by a crash, work as they should. The company tells Automotive News, which first reported the problem, that the flaw does not interfere with airbag deployment.
The affected models include the 2012 Cadillac SRX crossover and 2013 Buick Verano sedan; Cadillac ATS and XTS sedans; Chevrolet Cruze small car, Equinox crossover and Volt extended-range hybrid; and GMC Terrain crossover.
GM is able to reprogram some vehicles remotely through the OnStar system. Dealers are updating others manually. The company says it is fixing the issue in the same way in affected vehicles that have already been sold.
