General Motors Co. reports that sales in China by the company and its joint ventures rose 16% to a record 343,800 units in September. GM attributes the gain to a better product mix and the growing popularity of its Chevrolet and Cadillac brands.

Buick sales last month zoomed 23% to 108,300 units in China. Deliveries of Baojun brand models jumped 33% to 62,700 vehicles. Cadillac sales soared 63% to 12,500 units. An expanding model lineup helped Chevrolet sales advance 3% to 51,900 units.

Sales by GM and its ventures in China climbed to a record 2.71 million units through the first nine months of 2016, up 9% compared with the same period last year.
