General Motors Co. is preparing to recall 795,000 of its 2014 model Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 full-size pickup trucks worldwide. About 85% of the vehicles were sold in the U.S.
GM says the electric power steering assist can fail, especially during low-speed turns when power assist is most helpful. The effect would abruptly increase steering effort and thereby raise the chance of a crash.
Dealers will update control software to fix the problem, which relates to temporary low-voltage conditions that hamper the power steering system. GM hasn’t indicated when the recall will begin.
