GM Recalls 1.3 Million Vehicle for Power Steering Flaw
General Motors Co. which has recalled nearly 4.4 million cars worldwide in the past two months for defects in ignition switches, airbag wiring and safety materials is recalling another 1.3 million vehicles with faulty electric power steering motors.

General Motors Co. which has recalled nearly 4.4 million cars worldwide in the past two months for defects in ignition switches, airbag wiring and safety materials is recalling another 1.3 million vehicles with faulty electric power steering motors.
If the motor fails, the vehicle becomes considerably more difficult to steer.
The new campaign includes some models involved in GM's 2.6 million-unit ignition switch recall. Covered vehicles are:
- All 2004-2005 and certain 2006, 2008 and 2009 model Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedans
- All 2004-2005 and some 2006 model Chevrolet Malibu Maxx five-door hatchbacks
- All 2004-2007 Saturn Ion small sedans
- All 2005 and some 2006, 2008 and 2009 model Pontiac G6 midsize sedans
- Some 2008-2009 Saturn Aura midsize sedans
- Some 2009-2010 Chevrolet HHR multi-purpose vehicles
- Some 2010 model Chevrolet Cobalt small cars
The company says it also will provide lifetime warranties on the electric power steering motors for about 406,000 Chevy HHR and Saturn Ion models not included in the new recall.
GM says it will take a charge of about $750 million in the current quarter, mostly to pay for the recalls announced so far.
