GM, PSA Alliance Begins to Choose Projects

General Motors Co.'s Opel unit will build the next-generation Citroen C5 midsize car for alliance partner PSA Peugeot Citroen, according to French press reports. They say PSA will produce an unidentified compact car for Opel.

German magazine Der Spiegel reports PSA also will make the next-generation Opel Zafira MPV. The reports did not say when or where specific models would be made.

The 10-member GM-PSA steering committee met for the first time this week to discuss specific projects for the alliance.

The partners previously said they expect their joint efforts to cover small and midsize cars, MPVs, crossovers and perhaps large cars and minivans. The companies also said they expect to develop at least four small and midsize vehicle platforms by 2016.
