GM Propulsion Engineers Moving to Warren Tech Center
General Motors Co. plans to transfer about 3,000 workers at its Global Propulsion Systems center in Pontiac, Mich., to the company’s massive tech center in nearby Warren.

General Motors Co. plans to transfer about 3,000 of the 4,000 people working at its Global Propulsion Systems center in Pontiac, Mich., to the company’s massive tech center in nearby Warren.
Most of the affected employees are engineers. GM says the move will allow propulsion engineers to work more closely with colleagues to help accelerate the development and launch of electrified vehicles.
The propulsion team is responsible for internal combustion engines, electric motors, fuel cells and race engines. The group also develops transmissions and battery systems.
The move is expected to start later this year and be completed sometime in 2019. GM will maintain about 1,000 employees in Pontiac, which will oversee advanced technical test systems, fuel cell development and the performance and racing center.
GM halted renovations at the Pontiac and Warren facilities earlier this month as part of a new cost-cutting initiative. The plan also includes offering buyouts to about 18,000 white-collar workers.
