General Motors Co. is launching the second of four information technology centers, this one in Warren, Mich.

The company plans to hire as many as 1,500 people over the next several years to staff the facility. GM opened the first such center in Austin, Tex., last month.

The facilities are part of the plan GM unveiled in July to bring 90% of its IT services in-house within three years. The company has said it expects to hire 10,000 IT staffers during that period.

GM says the mission of the centers is to create new capabilities to cut costs, boost performance and deliver more innovation to its customers.
