General Motors Co. and Navistar International Corp. have formed a non-equity partnership to develop and produce medium-duty commercial vehicles to be sold under the Navistar and Chevrolet brands.
The long-term alliance will enable Chevy to reenter the Class 4/Class 5 market. The trucks, which will use a conventional cab layout, will combine Navistar's rolling chassis and manufacturing capacity with GM-supplied engines and other components.
The companies expect to begin production in 2018 at Navistar's factory in Springfield, Ohio. Navistar intends to invest $12 million to update the facility.
