Kazem currently is chief operating officer for the unit. He will succeed Arvind Saxena, head of GM’s India operations for nearly two years, who is retiring.
GM sold 56,700 vehicles in India in 2014. But the company announced in July it will invest $1 billion to establish local production for 10 new Chevrolet models by 2020. Over that period GM hopes to double its market share, currently at 1.8%.
