General Motors Co. intends to produce next-generation electric vehicles at its South Korean unit, according to Reuters.
GM Korea CEO Sergio Rocha didn't disclose to the news service what volume the company plans or when production will begin at its assembly plant near Bupyeong, Korea.
Rocha says the new vehicle, which will be based on a new design, would be slightly larger than the Chevrolet Spark EV that GM Korea started making this month. Those cars are being shipped to the U.S. and will eventually also be sold in the local market and exported to Europe.
Rocha adds that GM's joint venture partner LG Chem Ltd., which supplies lithium-ion batteries for the Spark EV, also will be the provider for the future EV.
