General Motors Co. is investing $36 million to ready its Lansing Delta Township plant in Michigan for “future crossover” production.

The facility currently produces the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse large crossovers. The investment is expected to be used to upgrade the plant for a mid-cycle freshening of the vehicles, which were redesigned in 2017.

GM opened the plant in 2006 and has produced more than 2 million crossover vehicles there since then. The company has invested more than $600 million in the facility since 2009, including $520 million in 2015.

The Lansing assembly plant currently operates on two shifts; a nearby stamping operations run on three shifts. The facilities employ a combined 2,900 people.
