GM Inches Closer to Decision on Big Buick

General Motors Co. is moving closer to a decision about using its new Omega rear-drive platform, which will debut in the new Cadillac CT6 sedan, to carry a top-of-the-line Buick, Automotive News notes.
"We're looking at it," global product development chief Mark Reuss told reporters in January and again last week. But he indicates nothing has been decided about a new range-topping Buick.
The Omega platform will debut late this year in the Cadillac CT6 large sedan. Observers have speculated that Buick might borrow the same chassis since plans for the CT6 emerged more than two years ago.
AN says the buzz picked up in January when Buick showed off the coupelike Avenir concept sedan at the Detroit auto show. Some pundits predict such a car could be developed primarily for the Chinese market.
Reuss says a Buick iteration of the Omega platform may not use as many cutting-edge assembly technologies and material blends as the CT6.
