The fund created last year to compensate victims of defective General Motors Co. ignition switches has approved four more applications for compensation, raising the total to 84.

Headed by attorney Kenneth Feinberg, the fund also accepted 11 more injury claims last week, raising the total to 157. In 2014 GM recalled 2.7 million cars with the faulty switches. The devices can be jostled out of the "run" position by a bump in the road, thus switching off the engine and power brake, power steering and airbag systems.

The fund has ruled 1,318 applications ineligible and continues to review 1,136 other claims. Feinberg indicated earlier that his team is not likely to complete its work until mid-summer or later. The cutoff for applications was Jan. 31.
