Only six claims for compensation from injuries and fatalities linked to faulty General Motors Co. ignition switches remain to be resolved by the fund set up to process them.
The fund received 4,342 applications before ending the offer on Jan. 31. Since then the service has ruled 3,938 of those claims ineligible. It also has approved compensation offers for 124 fatalities and 274 injuries. The fund is awaiting further evidence to help it decide about the six remaining "deficient" claims.
The fund says it has made 385 offers of compensation to date, with 275 accepted and five rejected. Applicants who take the fund's offer must agree not to sue GM in hopes of a larger settlement.
