General Motors Co. has added 81,100 cars to last March's global recall of 1.5 million vehicles with electric power-steering systems that could abruptly stop working.

The new batch of callbacks involves Chevrolet Malibu sedans, Malibu Maxx hatchbacks and Pontiac G6 sedans made in April-June 2006.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says dealers will replace the steering shaft torque sensor with an improved design that uses silver-plated electrical connectors.
