General Motors Co. says it is expanding capacity at its pickup truck factory in Wentzville, Mo., to meet demand for its Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickup trucks.
GM tells reporters it is updating the facility to increase line speed to achieve an undisclosed increase in output.
The redesigned vehicles trucks debuted 18 months ago, ending GM’s two-year hiatus from the segment. The models were instant hits, broadening interest in the U.S. midsize truck market dominated by the Toyota Tacoma pickup.
Demand for the two trucks totaled 114,500 units in 2015, significantly above estimates of most analysts. The Wentzville plant began running three shifts early last year.
