General Motors Co. has appointed Raymond Bierzynski as executive vice president of its SAIC-GM-Wuling minivehicle joint venture in China, effective immediately.
He succeeds Karl Slym, who left the partnership with SAIC and Wuling Motors in August to become managing director of India's Tata Motors Ltd.
Bierzynski had been executive director of electrification strategy for GM China since June 2011. The company says it will name his replacement in that job later. In his new post, Bierzynski will continue to report to GM China President Bob Socia.
Bierzynski began his career in 1978 at GM's Cadillac unit in Detroit. After a series of engineering jobs, he served stints as president of GM's Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (2004-2007) and vice president of GM Asia Pacific and GM executive director of engineering in China (2007-2009).
