Nissan Motor Co. built the City Express for GM at the Japanese carmaker’s plant in Cuernavaca, Mexico. The Chevy model is derived from Nissan’s NV200 cargo van.
GM has sold fewer than 30,000 of the vans in the U.S. since launching the City Express nearly four years ago. Sales peaked in 2015 at about 10,300 units, which was less than one-fourth the volume of the Ford Transit Connect and 7,000 fewer than the NV200.
Chevy dealers were informed last summer about the plans to discontinue the City Express, Automotive News says. Final order were taken in September and production ended in February.
GM hasn’t said if it will replace the City Express. But AN notes that the U.S. compact van segment is down another 7% this year after falling nearly 10% in 2017.
