General Motors Co. confirms a Reuters report last week that it will produce the all-electric Chevrolet Bolt. The company unveiled the five-door hatch in concept form last month at the Detroit auto show.
GM will spend $200 million to prepare its Orion assembly plant and Pontiac stamping facility to make the car. Both facilities are located north of Detroit.
The company reiterates the Bolt will be priced at about $30,000 and have a range of at least 200 miles per charge. The car will be equipped to handle direct-current fast charging.
GM has not yet said publicly when it will begin building the Bolt or how many it hopes to sell. Reuters sources say GM will introduce a production version of the car at the end of next year.
